And what a win it is!! Not an easy one at all – it is indeed a hard earned and well deserved victory for the men in blue who stood the test of talent, grit and extreme pressure to make their way to the victory post. After a month of excitement, as India bled blue and 'De ghuma ke' became the national anthem, Dhoni's men showed the world a perfect example of what teamwork, continuous effort and a positive mindset can achieve. They kept their cool amidst all the pressure and speculations. Its amazing how Team India gracefully carried the burden of expectations of 121 crore people and the pressure of playing on home ground and did not let it get the better of them.
There was a time when the Indian team was a one man show and if the opposition could leash Master Blaster Sachin, the entire team fell apart like a pack of cards and chasing was its all time weakness however low the target.Look at today's team- Woah!! its commendable how they could chase 275 in the world cup final amidst immense pressure with both their openers failing with the bat.
The way our team performed throughout the tournament, it was a well desrved win. Super exciting games all of them- specially the last three gave the entire nation full dose of paisa vasool entertainment and a high adrenaline rush. The entire nation came to a standstill for the last two games. Office work was stalled and streets deserted as people cheered the the men in blue.
And the final match- what a game it was- a test of nerves and Sri Lanka needs to be given full credit for making the match worthy of a final. Sangakara would indeed be proud of his team who gave the Indians a tough competition, but in the end it was MS Dhoni and company who won the battle of nerves with his positive and cool mindset and nerves of steel.
All Indians had their eyes glued to the match and as India won in a nailbiting finish, India was a proud nation. Everybody was celebrating. Huge crowds on the road, drum beats and firecrackers went out in all corners of the country as fans celebrated the historic win...a lifetime event- India winning the world cup in India after a gap of 28 years. As the Indian team had their eyes filled with tears of joy, the nation became ecstatic and danced through night. The celebration in the Wankhede statium was worth a watch as the players carried Sachin around the field. The genius truly deserved this ultimate glory in his career. For us- these are images that will remain etched in our minds forever!
It is surprising how a game of cricket can bring the second largest population of the world together. As scenes of celebration across the country flashed on the television set, I couldn't help but wonder if the cricket fan dancing in joy on the street cared if the person next to him in the crowd was of the same religion or caste as him or if he came from the same state or spoke the same language. Probably cricket is the biggest religion in India and it has the power to unite its people. I just wish it does not take another world cup win for us to reach out to our countrymen.
As the world cup draws to an end, I'll miss the excitement of the matches, the anxiety of 'Can India do it', all the fun, frolic and celebration after the win (thats becuase I'm not an avid IPL lover), but for now its party time – 'Jiyo Khiladi Wahe Wahe'
